Our Process
Premium solar. Properly designed. Professionally delivered.
Installing solar should feel simple.
Behind the scenes, however, there is a lot that needs to be done properly — from understanding your energy usage and designing the system, through to network applications, installation, commissioning and certification.
At Solar EV North, we manage the complete process from your first enquiry to your finished system.
01 — Tell Us About Your Home
It starts with you, not the roof.
Every project begins with understanding your property and how you actually use energy.
We’ll discuss what you’re looking to achieve, whether that’s reducing electricity bills, increasing energy independence, adding battery storage, preparing for an electric vehicle or creating a home capable of operating during a power cut.
We’ll also consider your current electricity consumption and anything that could change it in the future.
We may ask about:
Your annual electricity consumption
Your electricity tariff
When you typically use energy
Your roof and available installation space
Battery storage requirements
EV ownership or future EV plans
Heat pumps or other future electrical loads
Backup power requirements
The goal isn’t simply to work out how many panels will fit.
It’s to understand what the right energy system looks like for your home.
02 — Your Initial Solar Design
Designed around your property.
Using the information you’ve provided, we’ll create an initial system proposal.
We’ll consider the available roof space, orientation, expected generation, electricity consumption and potential battery requirements before recommending a system.
Depending on your requirements, this could include solar PV, battery storage, EV charging, intelligent energy management and whole-home backup.
You’ll receive a clear proposal showing what we’re recommending and, importantly, why.
Your proposal can include:
Solar panel layout and system size
Estimated annual generation
Recommended inverter
Battery storage capacity
EV charging options
Backup capability
Energy-management options
Estimated financial performance
No generic packages. No unnecessary equipment.
Just a system designed around your home.
03 — Consultation
Let’s talk through the design.
Solar can quickly become complicated.
kWp. kWh. Inverter ratings. Battery capacities. Export limits. Smart tariffs. Backup power.
We don’t expect you to already understand all of it.
One of our team will take you through the proposed system, explain the equipment we’ve selected and answer any questions you have.
We’ll also discuss how you could use the system day to day — including storing surplus solar generation, charging from lower-cost electricity tariffs and integrating an EV charger where required.
By the end of the consultation, you should understand exactly what you’re buying.
04 — Technical Survey
Making sure the design works in the real world.
Once you’re happy to proceed, we’ll complete the appropriate technical checks for your property.
This allows us to confirm the proposed design and identify anything that needs to be considered before installation begins.
Depending on the project, we’ll assess areas including:
Roof construction and condition
Panel positioning
Potential shading
Electrical installation
Consumer unit
Cable routes
Inverter location
Battery location
Scaffolding and access
EV charger location
Backup requirements
We also consider the appearance of the finished installation.
Equipment positioning and cable routes are planned before installation wherever possible so that the final result feels considered rather than added on afterwards.
05 — Final System Design
Every detail considered.
Following the survey, we’ll finalise the technical design.
This is where everything comes together.
The solar array, inverter, battery, electrical protection, mounting system, energy management and any EV charging or backup equipment are considered as one complete system.
If anything identified during the survey means the original proposal should change, we’ll discuss it with you before installation.
The system we install should be the system that’s right for the property.
06 — DNO & Pre-Installation
We handle the technical paperwork.
Solar and battery systems interact with the electricity network, so the relevant Distribution Network Operator requirements need to be followed.
Depending on the system, this may involve a G98 notification or a G99 application and approval.
Where applicable, Solar EV North manages this process as part of your project.
We’ll also coordinate the other elements required to get your installation ready, including equipment, scheduling and access arrangements.
You don’t need to become a solar engineer to get solar installed.
That’s our job.
07 — Installation Day
This is where the design becomes reality.
Our installation team arrives and begins bringing the system together.
Solar panels and mounting equipment are installed on the roof while the electrical team installs the inverter, battery, protection equipment and associated cabling.
If your project includes an EV charger, energy manager or backup system, these elements are integrated as part of the wider installation.
But performance isn’t the only thing we care about.
The details matter.
Straight arrays.
Clean cable routes.
Carefully positioned equipment.
Quality mounting components.
Thoughtful electrical work.
A premium energy system should look like it belongs on the property.
08 — Commissioning
Installed. Tested. Connected.
Once the physical installation is complete, the system is thoroughly checked and commissioned.
We’ll verify that the equipment is operating correctly and configure the system for your property.
Where applicable, this includes setting up:
Solar generation
Battery charging and discharging
Energy monitoring
Smart operating schedules
EV charging
Backup functionality
System applications and connectivity
Only once we’re satisfied with the installation do we consider the system complete.
09 — Your Handover
We’ll show you how everything works.
Before we leave you with your new system, we’ll explain how to use it.
You’ll be shown how to monitor solar generation, understand battery behaviour and access the relevant apps or energy-management platform.
If your system includes smart tariff scheduling, EV charging or backup functionality, we’ll explain how those features operate too.
You shouldn’t need to figure everything out yourself once we’ve left.
10 — Certification & Documentation
Everything properly completed.
Following installation, we’ll complete the relevant certification and documentation for your system.
Depending on the installation, this can include electrical certification, MCS documentation, DNO documentation and equipment warranty information.
We’ll also provide the information required to help you move forward with an eligible export tariff where applicable.
Your installation isn’t finished simply because the panels are on the roof.
The paperwork matters too.
11 — Monitoring & Aftercare
We’re still here after installation day.
Solar is a long-term investment.
The relationship with your installer shouldn’t end when the van leaves your driveway.
Compatible systems provide monitoring that allows you to keep track of generation, battery performance and household energy flows.
And if you have a question about your system in the future, Solar EV North is here to help.
Because when you’re installing equipment designed to operate for decades, who installs it — and who supports it afterwards — matters.
One Team. One Complete Energy System.
From your first conversation through to design, installation and aftercare, Solar EV North manages your project as one complete process.
